2011 Corton Charlemage, Domaine Henri Boillot

94-96 points Galloni: "Boillot describes his 2011s as having a bit more richness and better balance of fruit and acidity than the 2010s. Based on what I tasted, it's hard to argue that point. Boillot seems to be one case where the 2011s have the potential to be better across the board than the 2010s... This flight of 2011s comes to a close with the 2011 Corton-Charlemagne, a cool, introspective and powerful wine. Layers of bright citrus, mint and crushed rocks fill out the wine?s big, broad-shouldered frame nicely. The intense, tight finish suggests the Corton-Charlemagne is going to require a measure of patience. Anticipated maturity: 2014+." Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"It is an inescapable truth that 2010 has produced another year of compelling Bordeaux that will go down as a prodigious vintage alongside 2009! " Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
" In short, 2009 is the greatest vintage I have tasted in Bordeaux since 1982, of which it is a modern-day version, but greatly improved. It is more consistent (many châteaux that were making mediocre wine in 1982 are now making brilliant wine) and of course, the yields are lower, the selection process is stricter, and there are any other number of factors, from investments in the wineries to impeccable, radical viticulture, that have resulted in extraordinary raw materials."
" unquestionably the greatest Bordeaux vintage I have ever tasted." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

"...2010 is the finest vintage for red Burgundy I have tasted since I made my first tour of the region in 1988. The vintage has virtually all the elements of Burgundy greatness: vibrant aromas and flavors accurate to terroir; bright acidity; inner-mouth tension; intensity without weight; palpable minerality; ripe, fine-grained tannins; and the concentration, balance and backbone to support a long evolution in bottle. " Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

"...a vintage with outstanding succulent appeal. And although many wines stand out for their sweet fruit, fleshy texture, easygoing acidity and lush tannins, there's no shortage of more classically styled wines with restrained sweetness, good flavor definition and vibrant finishes " Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

"The most successful 2009s are wonderfully fresh, seductively opulent, elegant and refined burgundies that should be more than capable of successfully rewarding short-to-mid-term cellaring out to 20 years or so. " Allen Meadows, Burghound

As with many things, there is an element of "fashion" in the world of wine, and what's hip today today might become passé. There was a time...when Heitz "Martha's Vineyard" (the winery's top-of-the line bottling) was considered the apotheosis of Napa Valley....

Stemming from the Italian word "nebbia" that describes the fog that weaves its way through the hills of Piedmont during the months of September and October, the legendary Nebbiolo grape is inarguably one of the world's most treasured varietals.
