1978 La Tour Haut Brion (BS label), 750 ML - 249.95

95 points Parker: "This is a wine I try to purchase at wine auctions. One of the top wines of the 1978 vintage, La Tour-Haut-Brion's color remains a murky garnet/purple. An explosive nose offers up aromas of roasted meats and herbs, truffles, licorice, Asian spices, and sweet black currant fruit. It is powerful, muscular, and full-bodied, with considerable tannin. This profoundly rich wine is just beginning to reach its plateau of maturity, where it should remain for another 10-20 years. It is a remarkable effort! Anticipated maturity: 2000-2020. Last tasted 10/97."

2000 D'Armailhac, 750 ML - 49.99

91 points Parker: "This continues to be one of the most seductive and luscious d'Armailhacs I have ever tasted. It may be my favorite vintage of d'Armailhac. Opaque purple-colored, this blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot has surprisingly good acidity with the high Merlot content and high tannin, but an expressive, opulent mid-texture and loads of charcoal-infused, cedary, black currant fruit intermixed with spice box, dried herbs, and espresso notes. The wine is full-bodied, sweet, and expansive. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020".

2005 Pavie Decesse Magnum, 1.5 L - 550.00

96+ points Parker: "Pavie Decesse, a much smaller vineyard (9 acres) than Pavie, produces just over 400 cases of wine. The vines average 45+ years of age, and the blend contains no Cabernet Sauvignon and much less Cabernet Franc than Pavie. Yields are similar for the two estates, but Pavie Decesse exhibits more espresso, chocolate, and caramelized Merlot-like flavors, and reveals a certain freshness and precision because of its exquisite limestone-based terroir. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the blockbuster 2005 Pavie Decesse boasts an inky/purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of crushed rocks, acacia flowers, blackberries, blueberries, and a super-concentrated cranberry-like note. Its well-integrated toasty oak component is more noticeable than in the Pavie. Exceptionally concentrated, powerful, and long, it is meant for long-term aging in spite of the high percentage of Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040+."

1982 La Conseillante, 750 ML - 350.00

95 points Parker: "This wine has been fully mature for over a decade, yet it continues to improve with each tasting. It reveals a light color with noticeable orange and amber at the edge. Spectacular aromatics explode from the glass, offering up scents of toasty new oak, kirsch liqueur, black currants, cedar, and licorice. Lush, sexy, and opulent, with a silky entry as well as velvety texture, this plush, seamless, medium to full-bodied Pomerol remains fruity and fresh, with gorgeous intensity and length. While I have under-estimated this 1982's longevity from birth, I would still opt for drinking it over the next 5-8 years."

2005 l'Arrosee, 750 ml - 59.99

Upgraded to 92-94 points Parker: "Thanks to this estate?s new proprietor, 2005 is the finest vintage for l?Arrosee since 1982. A mineral-dominated effort, it reveals a Burgundian-like nose of black raspberries, forest floor, flowers, and even blacker fruits. As the wine sits in the glass, a notion of spring lilacs also emerges. This full-bodied, dense, rich St.-Emilion possesses an ethereal lightness/elegance that can not be dismissed. The tannins are substantial, but sweet and soft, suggesting this wine will be approachable in its youth yet age easily for 25 or more years. It is worth noting that the inestimable Michel Bettane, France?s most competent wine writer/critic, named the 2005 l?Arrosee the ?wine of the year? on his website - no small distinction."

1970 Lynch Bages, 750 ML - 169.99

91 points Parker: "It is interesting that this was the next vintage tasted in the vertical tasting, and I am not surprised given the mediocre decade of performances by Lynch Bages. Only the 1975 stands out, and that wine seems only good when compared to modern day successes. The 1970 is an old style Lynch Bages with plenty of dry tannin in the finish. Compellingly aromatic, it offers aromas of cedar wood, spice box, tobacco, earth, black currants, and new saddle leather. Spicy, concentrated, and burly, with mouth-searing tannin, this big, thick wine is a terrific example of Lynch Bages made in an older style. It will continue to last for 10-15 years, but look for it to become increasingly austere and attenuated. Anticipated maturity: now-2015."

2003 Leoville las Cases (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 179.95

93+ Parker: "The solidly made 2003 Leoville Las-Cases (13.2% alcohol) is a blend of 70.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17.2% Merlot, and 12.6% Cabernet Franc. In this incredibly hot vintage, the alcohol is slightly lower than achieved in 2002, a cool-climate year. While not a profound example of Las-Cases, the 2003 is muscular, deep, and full-bodied with an impressive ruby/purple color, a tight but juicy bouquet of vanilla, black cherries, crushed rocks, and flowers, a sweet attack, and moderately high tannin. Backward and fresh, displaying impeccable delineation and purity, it can be enjoyed between 2012-2023."

2004 Leoville Poyferre, 750 ml - 59.99

90-93 points Parker: "Compared to the blockbuster 2003, the 2004 is a more streamlined, elegant effort without the power, glycerin, and thickness of its older sibling. Nevertheless, it is an impressive St.-Julien offering a deep ruby/purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of smoky cassis and cherries, medium body, and admirable concentration, purity, nobleness, and elegance. It's not a blockbuster, but rather a classic Bordeaux for drinking between 2008-2020."

2005 Grand Pontet, 750 ml - 45.00

91-93 points Parker: "Sophie Porquet, the same woman who makes the fabulous Joanin-Becot in the Cotes de Castillon, has run this property since 1999. A 35-acre vineyard situated on limestone and sandy/clay soils, it is generally a blend of 70% Merlot and equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The blockbuster 2005, which tastes even better than it did last year, boasts an opaque purple color as well as aromas and flavors of chocolate, espresso roast, melted licorice, and blackberry liqueur. Huge muscle, richness, power, and fruit, a terrific, multilayered texture, and a long, tannic finish are accompanied by a natural alcohol of 14% plus. The dry extract figures are almost off the charts. Give it 5-6 years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 25-30 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage."

2005 Peby (Peby Faugeres) Magnum, 1.5 L - 193.00

Upgraded to 94-96 points Parker: "The Cuvee Speciale Peby has been a blockbuster since its inception in 1998 (it is meant to honor the former proprietress?s deceased husband). Fashioned from yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, the 2005 is 100% Merlot from 45-year-old vines planted on a southeast facing slope in brown limestone soils. This sensational effort is as concentrated as a Bordeaux can be. Hugely extracted, but without any bitterness, it possesses abundant power, a black/purple color, and a beautiful perfume of creme de cassis, graphite, pain grille, and chocolate. In the mouth, it is formidably endowed and powerful with high tannin, glycerin, and richness. Like its sibling, it achieved 14.5% natural alcohol. Give it 7-10 years of cellaring and enjoy it over the following three decades. New proprietor Silvio Denz has renamed his luxury cuvee, but the quality is as high as it was under Faugeres? former owner. The good news is that both Stephan von Neipperg (proprietor of Canon-La-Gaffeliere and a few other estates) and Michel Rolland have been hired as consultants."

2000 Talbot, 750 ML - 59.99

90-92 Parker: "This wine is sexy, seductive, and undeniably difficult to resist, even at such a young age. The deep ruby/purple color is followed by a wine with low acidity, sweet tannin, and copious quantities of blackberry and currant fruit intermixed with new oak and spice. Initially superficial, it seemed to grow in the glass. While not a blockbuster, it is velvety-textured, succulent, and delicious. It appears to be Talbot"s finest effort since their prodigious 1986. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2018."

2000 La Conseillante, 750 ML - 179.99

96 points Parker: "A tremendous effort, and certainly the best La Conseillante since the marvelous duo of 1989 and 1990, this deep ruby/plum/purple-colored wine offers up notes of blackberries and kirsch liqueur intermixed with licorice, incense, spice box, and copious amounts of toasty oak. It is a relatively powerful effort for La Conseillante, with more tannin and structure than most vintages posses. As the wine sits in the glass, black raspberries, blueberries, smoke along with floral notes emerge. There is tremendous purity, medium to full body, great precision and concentration. Unlike most vintages of La Conseillante, the 2000 will require patience. A bottle kept open refused to oxidize until day six! Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025."

1996 Latour, 750 ML - 599.99

99 points Parker: "A spectacular Latour, the 1996 may be the modern day clone of the 1966, only riper. This vintage, which is so variable in Pomerol, St.-Emilion, and Graves, was fabulous for the late-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon of the northern Medoc because of splendid weather in late September and early October. An opaque purple color is followed by phenomenally sweet, pure aromas of cassis infused with subtle minerals. This massive offering possesses unreal levels of extract, full body, intensely ripe, but abundant tannin, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Classic and dense, it displays the potential for 50-75 years of longevity. Although still an infant, it would be educational to taste a bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2050."

1983 Pichon Lalande, 750 ML - 159.99

94 pts. Parker: "Consistently one of the great wines of the 1983 vintage, as well as one of my personal favorites, this beautiful wine has been gorgeous to drink since bottling. It displays no signs of evolution, although it remains undeniably rich, seductive, and compelling. Deep dark ruby-colored, with a huge nose of Asian spices, blackcurrants, plums, and flowers, this super-concentrated, velvety-textured wine reveals gobs of rich, creamy fruit. It can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years. It is Pauillac at its most decadent and seductive!"

2003 Cos d'Estournel, 750 ml - 175.00

98 points Parker: "The prodigious, fantastic 2003 Cos d'Estournel is a candidate for 'wine of the vintage.' A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon (unusually high for this chateau), 30% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, 17,500 cases were produced from low yields. An inky/blue/purple color is accompanied by a compelling perfume of black fruits, subtle smoke, pain grille, incense, and flowers. With extraordinary richness, full body, and remarkable freshness, elegance, and persistence, this is one of the finest wines ever made by this estate. The good news is that it will be drinkable at a young age yet evolve for three decades or more. Kudos to winemaker Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier."

1986 Mouton, 750 ML - 699.00

100 points Parker: "After stumbling over some wines I thought were high class Bordeaux, I nailed this wine in one of the blind tastings for this article. In most tastings where a great Bordeaux is inserted with California Cabernets, the Bordeaux comes across as drier, more austere, and not nearly as rich and concentrated (California wines are inevitably fruitier and more massive). To put it mildly, the 1986 Mouton-Rothschild held its own (and then some), in a flight that included the Caymus Special Selection, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23, Dunn Howell Mountain, and Joseph Phelps Eisele Vineyard. Clearly the youngest looking, most opaque and concentrated wine of the group, it tastes as if it has not budged in development since I first tasted it out of barrel in March, 1987. An enormously concentrated, massive Mouton-Rothschild, comparable in quality, but not style, to the 1982, 1959, and 1945, this impeccably made wine is still in its infancy. Interestingly, when I was in Bordeaux several years ago, I had this wine served to me blind from a magnum that had been opened and decanted 48 hours previously. Even then, it still tasted like a barrel sample! I suspect the 1986 Mouton-Rothschild requires a minimum of 15-20 more years of cellaring; it has the potential to last for 50-100 years! Given the outrageously high prices being fetched by so many of the great 1982s and 1990s (and lest I forget, the 1995 Bordeaux futures), it appears this wine might still be one of the "relative bargains" in the fine wine marketplace. I wonder how many readers will be in shape to drink it when it does finally reach full maturity?"

1982 Pichon Lalande, 750 ML - 499.99

100 pts. Parker: "This has been the most sumptuous, delicious, and profound 1982 to drink over the last 5-6 years. It has never gone through any kind of dormant stage, and it continues to be the odds on favorite to emerge first in any blind tasting of the top 1982s. It reveals a classic Pauillac aromatic profile of sweet blackcurrant fruit intermingled with scents of herbs, cedar, and toast. However, on the palate it performs more like a great Pomerol. Given its unctuous texture, and lavish quantities of fruit, glycerin, and alcohol, this is a thick, supple, velvety-textured, gloriously decadent and hedonistic Pichon-Lalande that should continue to drink well for another 10-12 years. If readers need just one wine with which to impress someone, close a deal, or just experience the pleasures of wine, make it the 1982 Pichon-Lalande. Tasted 27 times since bottling with consistent notes."

2005 Lascombes Magnum, 1.5 L - 189.99

95 points Parker: "A gorgeous example of Lascombes, the 2005, a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, continues the remarkable turn-around in quality that began five years ago. A stunningly opulent wine with a dense purple color, the 2005 possesses a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, creosote, and graphite, full body, silky but noticeable tannins, a layered mouthfeel, and a stunning, 45+-second finish. This is a brilliant, modern-styled Margaux that should age for 30-35 years."

2005 Lucia, 750 ml - 69.99

95 points Parker: "Another tiny St.-Emilion operation (7.5 acres, with one parcel of Merlot planted in 1901), Lucia?s brilliantly executed 2005 boasts an inky/purple/blue color along with a sweet perfume of blueberries, blackberries, charcoal, incense, Asian spices, and hints of coffee and pain grille in the background. This full-bodied, powerful, layered St.-Emilion is filled with fruit extract, glycerin, and tannin. It displays a certain accessibility, but it will undoubtedly be at its finest in 4-10 years, and keep for 25. This is another sumptuous wine from consultant Stephane Derenoncourt."

2005 Beausejour Duffau 1/2, 375 ml - 45.00

94-96 points Parker: "Unquestionably the most compelling wine made at this estate since their perfect 1990, this renowned terroir has turned out a prodigious 2005 made from a blend of 70% Merlot, and equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Yields were only 34 hectoliters per hectare, and the alcohol content exceeds 13.5%. The bouquet is reminiscent of the 1990's with scents of blueberries, crushed rocks, acacia flowers, blackberries, and subtle wood. Stunningly rich and full-bodied, with a more tannic structure than the 1990 as well as abundant purity, freshness, and multiple layers, it is a noble, racy effort with fabulous potential. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2030."

2008 Lafite Rothschild (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 429.99

98-100 points Parker: "The 2008 Lafite Rothschild is one of the most profound young wines I have ever tasted. From a taster?s perspective, it is reminiscent of a blend of the 1996 and 2003, but when you compare those vintages analytically, that makes no sense whatsoever. Representing only 40% of the production, this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc boasts an opaque ruby/purple color (one of the darkest Lafites I have seen in 30 years) as well as an extraordinary, blockbuster aromatic profile of lead pencil shavings, forest floor, black fruits, licorice, and a hint of unsmoked, high-class cigar tobacco. In the mouth, a massive richness is accompanied by a freshness, delineation, nuance, delicacy, and mind-boggling density. Even after three decades of tasting, I am still astonished when tasting such a prodigious wine as this. Full, inky, and rich with creme de cassis and spice box characteristics as well as a length that I stopped measuring after a minute, the wine reveals a sweetness to the tannin and an opulence to the fruit that suggests a hot, sunny vintage, but again, that was not the case. There wasn?t a great deal of heat, but there was more sunshine than the negative press reported at the beginning of September. This is a great, great wine. The harvest at Lafite took place between October 1-7 for the Merlot grapes, the Cabernet Franc was picked in mid-October, and the Cabernet Sauvignon between October 7-14 - an unbelievably late harvest for this estate. This wine should evolve for 30-40 years and last 50 or more. As I have indicated before, Lafite?s second wine is now one of Bordeaux?s finest second wines, and is made very much in the Lafite style."

2005 Troplong Mondot (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 249.99

96-100 points Parker: "A blockbuster, extraordinarily profound effort from proprietor Christine Valette, the 2005 Troplong Mondot is the finest wine she has made since the other-worldly 1990. It dense black color is followed by a stupendous bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, truffles, graphite, and smoke. It cascades over the palate with exquisite density, purity, full-bodied power, and remarkable freshness as well as delineation. This magical wine somehow manages to harness extraordinary power and structure with a sense of delicacy and finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2025+."

2005 Prieure Lichine 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 25.99

91-94 points Parker: "Even considering some of the great vintages produced under the late Alexis Lichine, this estate has never made a wine as impressive as their 2005. Consultant Stephane Derenoncourt is obviously realizing this vineyard?s full potential. The deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by an open-knit, exotic bouquet of spice, incense, flowers, and sweet black cherries and blackberries. Rich and opulent, with ripe tannin, a savory, voluminous mouthfeel, and wonderful definition as well as elegance, this gorgeous wine is a tour de force for Prieure-Lichine. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025."

2005 Croix de Labrie (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 99.99

94 points Parker: "As most vintages of this small garagiste estate tend to be, the 2005 Croix de Labrie is truly sumptuous stuff. Made from 100% Merlot (only 300 cases produced), it possesses an inky/purple color to the rim as well as a nose that smells like blueberry and blackberry ice cream infused with floral, wood, and espresso scents. Superb intensity and purity as well as an exotic, ostentatious personality are impossible to resist. Not a classic claret, it is the antithesis of the aristocratic, noble Medocs, but what a ride it provides. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years."

2005 Calon Segur (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 105.00

92 points Parker: "A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the totally closed 2005 Calon Segur is one of those traditionally made, backstrapping, uncompromising Bordeaux that will last 30-40 or more years. Its dense ruby color with purple nuances is followed by a nose that reluctantly offers up scents of damp earth, wood smoke, black cherries, cassis, and an exotic Asian spice character. The wine is formidably endowed and broodingly tannic, with noticeable acidity and a structured, nearly impenetrable mouthfeel. Nevertheless, it is easy to sense the weight, extract, and richness in this pure, deep wine. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050."

2003 Clerc Milon (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 45.99

95-100 Spectator - 90-93 Parker: "Dense black/ruby-colored to the rim, this blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Carmenere (that"s right!) offers exotic aromas of smoke, barbecue spices, blackberries, roasted coffee, and chocolate. Deep, chewy, thick, and juicy, this unctuously-textured, well-endowed, full-bodied northern Medoc should drink well young, yet keep for 15-20 years."

2008 Troplong Mondot 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 39.99

95-97 points Parker: "What a worthy rival to the prodigious 2005! This is another superb success from proprietress Christine Valette, but it is distressing to hear that this property may be up for sale. The inky/blue/purple-colored, formidably concentrated 2008 exhibits aromas of smoke, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, roasted coffee, and spice box. Boasting fabulous fruit and purity, a multilayered texture, full body, and prominent, but sweet, well-integrated tannin, this is a tour de force in winemaking from an outstanding and a perfectionist proprietor. Give it 5-6 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following three decades."

2008 Leoville las Cases 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 59.99

95-97+ points Parker: "Readers should not be surprised that the 2008 Leoville Las Cases is a great classic as the selection process here is as Draconian as at any of the first-growths. Slightly more than one-third of the production made it into the grand vin, a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Merlot. Yields were just under 38 hectoliters per hectare, and the natural alcohol of 13.4% is among the highest ever measured at this estate. The harvest was very late, between October 6-18, and the result is a wine boasting extraordinarily sweet tannin as well as abundant black cherry and cassis notes intermixed with a prominent underlying minerality. Despite the massive density, concentration, and length, the wine is extremely precise, nuanced, and impeccably pure. This phenomenal effort should be more drinkable in its youth than many other vintages of Las Cases because of the ripe tannins and sweet fruit density. It will need 5-10 years of cellaring, and should last for 40+ years."

2008 La Mission Haut Brion 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 79.99

94-96+ points Parker: "Another property that is harvested very late (September 23-October 17), the 2008 La Mission-Haut-Brion is a powerful, backward effort that is not yet fully expressing itself. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc, it reveals a deep blue/purple hue in addition to sumptuous aromas of melted asphalt, graphite, blueberries, and black currant liqueur. Dense, with high but velvety tannins, top-flight purity, and a full-bodied, backward, formidably endowed style, this beauty seems to be set for a long life. It is difficult to compare 2008 with any other recent vintage, but the closest would probably be 1998. A La Mission made for four decades or more of cellaring, it is a top-notch effort that should improve during the elevage in barrel."

2008 Haut Brion 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 119.99

95-97 points Parker: "Production for the 2008 Haut-Brion represents only 35% of the grapes harvested, and while production can be over 12,000 cases in an abundant vintage, 2008 will be one of their smallest ever, with only 7,000 cases produced from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc. The 2008 reminds me of a hypothetical blend of the 1996 and 1998. It is a classic, elegant, but substantial Haut-Brion with a dense ruby/purple color as well as crushed rock, spring flower, blueberry, and black currant characteristics presented in a vivid, vibrant, full-bodied style that cuts an ethereal feel across the palate. Haut-Brion is somewhat akin to Cheval Blanc in that it can be seemingly light on the palate, but very intense in flavor. That is the case with the 2008. There is plenty of tannin, but it is very ripe. This impressive, deep wine requires patience, and a ten year wait is mandatory. This formidable Haut-Brion should have a 40-50 year lifeline."

2008 Troplong Mondot Magnum (pre-arrival), 1.5 L - 159.99

2008 Pavie 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 72.50

96-98+ Parker: "Is the 2008 Pavie superior to the 2005 and 2000? While that is impossible to know at this stage of its development, it will certainly be one of the three greatest Pavies made under the administration of Chantal and Gerard Perse. Cropped at a very low 30 hectoliters per hectare, the final blend is a classic Pavie combination of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 14.5% natural alcohol is the highest ever achieved at this estate. The inky/blue/purple color is followed by a wine with a concentrated, full-bodied texture, a layered mouthfeel, fresh acids, abundant tannin, and a 50-60-year evolution ahead of it. Compared to the enormous, but backward 2005, the 2008 seems even less evolved at a similar stage. Sweet creme de cassis, black cherry, licorice, and smoky barbecue characteristics combine with a liqueur of minerality that resonates from this terroir that is considered to be among the top dozen or so vineyard sites in Bordeaux. This remarkable offering, from a person who has, thankfully, ignored the petty jealousy and unfair criticism of his administration, is another St.-Emilion for your children?s children. For the fact-mongers, this cuvee was hand-harvested between October 13-21, with the grapes put in small plastic containers. Everything is moved by gravity flow, and there is no fining or filtration following a slightly longer than normal aging (28-30 months) in oak casks."

2008 Margaux 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 124.99

95-97 points Parker: "This is a superb vintage for Chateau Margaux, and while it may be too early to say this, the 2008 appears superior to the 2007, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2002, and 2001. Only 36% of the crop was utilized and the yields were 40 hectoliters per hectare. An exceptionally late harvest for this estate began on October 3 for the Merlot, and finished on October 23. The final blend includes a whoppingly high 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. As always, the first characteristic one notices is the extraordinary floral component as well as the sweet black currant fruit allied to full-bodied richness, sweet tannin, and superb freshness and delineation. In many ways, the 2008 is reminiscent of the 1996, but the former wine is showing even more density and concentration than the 1996 did at the same point in its evolution. The 2008, which appears set for 30-40 years of longevity, is a remarkable effort from this great estate."

2008 Ducru Beaucaillou (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 89.99

96-98 points Parker: "In Bruno Borie?s words, the 2008 Ducru Beaucaillou is ?well above 2004, with much more structure than 2007, and more sensuality than 2006.? I would add that it is even better than that, and as profound as the 2005. Approximately 33% of the crop made it into Ducru, which came in at 13.1% natural alcohol. This 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot blend reveals a dense opaque purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet bouquet of spring flowers, creme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, licorice, espresso roast, and spice. A testament to the density and richness of this wine is the fact that no oak is apparent in the aromas or flavors. The wine is unctuously textured, but analytically, it has a good level of total acid and sound pH. This fabulous offering will age effortlessly for 30-40+ years."

95+ points Parker: "The 2006 is a wine to stockpile, especially for those in their thirties and forties as it needs another decade to reach maturity, after which it should keep for 30+ years. This vineyard, just south of Mouton Rothschild, has produced an opaque bluish/purple-colored 2006 with an extraordinarily pure nose of graphite, charcoal, sweet creme de cassis, and a hint of scorched earth. Incredible concentration, stunning richness, and a 60-second finish result in a wine that transcends the vintage as well as this estate?s 1855 classification. This enormously endowed, modern day classic is a legend in the making. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2050+."

2005 Peby Cuvee Speciale (Peby Faugeres) 6 Liter, 6 L - 899.00

95 points Parker: "Not surprisingly, the 2005 Cuvee Speciale Peby, which was inaugurated in 1998, is a blockbuster. Yields were low (25 hectoliters per hectare) for this sensational 100% Merlot from 45-year old vines. The inky/black/purple color is followed by a super-rich wine boasting plenty of graphite, pain grille, melted chocolate, black currant, blackberry, smoke, and truffle characteristics. It is extremely powerful, concentrated, and extracted. Give it a decade of cellaring and drink it over the following three decades. If there is one reservation to heed, it is the very high level of tannins."

2005 Monbousquet (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 79.99

95 points Parker: "From a less than noble terroir in Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens, Gerard Perse has accomplished miraculous things at Monbousquet. Prior to his acquisition of this property in the mid-nineties, this wine tasted like watered-down Beaujolais, but Perse has turned it into one of the more stunning, modern-styled wines of Bordeaux. A blend of approximately two-thirds Merlot, one-third Cabernet Franc and 8-10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 exhibits plenty of toasty oak, roasted herb, meat juice, blackberry, cherry, and spice characteristics along with a touch of incense. Full-bodied and opulent, with an atypically rigid structure, this is a remarkable achievement for such a humble terroir. It admirably reflects Gerard Perse?s obsessive commitment to excellence. Look for this 2005 to hit its stride in 7-8 years, and last for 15-20."

2004 Montrose, 750 ml - 69.95

92-95 points Tanzer: "(a blend of 64% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot) Bright ruby-red. Aromatic nose combines blackberry, violet and licorice. Juicy, aromatic and fine-grained, with subtle inner-mouth perfume. Very suave, floral wine, finishing with very fine tannins. The alcohol here is about 12.7%, compared to 13.1% in 2003. This shows the refinement of a first growth and will probably need a good 10 to 12 years of cellaring."

2005 Figeac (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 115.00

90 points Parker: "The finest Figeac since the 1990 and 1982, the restrained, but complex 2005 exhibits notes of black olives, new saddle leather, tobacco leaf, and sweet cherry and black currant fruit. The wine is medium-bodied with racy tannins as well as a streamlined style built on finesse and delicacy rather than on power and concentration. Consume it over the next 15-20 years."

2005 Certan de May Magnum, 1.5 L - 263.00

92 points Parker: "This property has returned to form following a listless period of irregularity that began after a brilliant succession of top wines in the eighties (1982, 1985, 1986, and 1988). Perhaps the finest wine since that outstanding quartet, the deep ruby/purple-tinged 2005 offers up scents of menthol, black cherries, raspberries, cassis, coffee, and a hint of new saddle leather. Full-bodied and powerful with a firm structure and high, but sweet, well-integrated tannin, this is not a Pomerol for near-term gratification. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035."

2005 Pavie 3 Liter, 3 L - 1650.00

98 points Parker: "Now that the 2005 Pavie is in the bottle, I would place it, qualitatively, a notch below the prodigious 2000, and a few notches above the blockbuster 2003. There are 7,000 cases of this 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Disregarding the blatant jealousy of his success as well as his ?outsider? status, proprietor Gerard Perse has pushed the envelope of quality, fashioning first-growth quality wines from one of Bordeaux?s finest terroirs. In St.-Emilion, only Ausone can be considered to have greater potential in terms of micro-climate and terroir. Pavie?s 2005 exhibits a thick-looking purple color to the rim as well as an exquisite perfume of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, unsmoked cigar tobacco, crushed rocks, damp earth, and hints of truffles and incense. The vineyard?s limestone soils have provided massive concentration, a laser-like precision, fresh, zesty acidity, and massive tannin. Despite the wine?s enormous concentration and intensity, there is a lightness to its style. As Perse has made clear, he is trying to produce modern day versions of such great vintages as 1921, 1929, 1945, and 1947, wines that lasted 50 or more years. I do not understand why Perse receives so much criticism. In the blind tastings of each new vintage conducted by the Grand Jury European, Pavie usually wins against 100 or so other great Bordeaux. As they say, the truth is irrefutable - this is one of the world?s most outstanding wines, and the 2005 Pavie should take its place among the greatest achievements of Bordeaux in the last 50 years. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2060."

2005 Clos l'Eglise (Pomerol) Magnum, 1.5 L - 349.99

96 points Parker: "The 2005 Clos l?Eglise gives the brilliant 2001, 2000, and1998 a run for their money. Time will tell if it eventually eclipses those three sensational efforts. A huge, sweet nose of creme brulee intermixed with black cherry liqueur, blackberries, tar, caramel, and mocha/coffee soars from the glass of this blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Opulence, superb intensity, abundant quantities of sweet toasty oak, a full-bodied richness, and excellent purity as well as depth suggest it will age effortlessly for over two decades. This is a brilliant Pomerol from proprietor Helene Garcin and her consulting winemaker, Dr. Alain Raynaud."

1996 Margaux, 750 ML - 499.99

99 points Parker: "The 1996 Chateau Margaux, which was bottled in September, 1998, is undoubtedly one of the great classics produced under the Mentzelopoulos regime. In many respects, it is the quintessential Chateau Margaux, as well as the paradigm for this estate, combining measured power, extraordinary elegance, and admirable complexity. I tasted the wine on three separate occasions in January, and in short, it's a beauty! The color is opaque purple. The wine offers extraordinarily pure notes of blackberries, cassis, pain grille, and flowers, gorgeous sweetness, a seamless personality, and full body, with nothing out of place. The final blend (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc) contains a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. It tastes complete and long, although backward. My instincts suggest this wine will shut down, but at present it is open-knit, tasting like a recently bottled wine. The fruit is exceptionally sweet and pure, and there are layers of flavor in the mouth. I do believe this wine will develop an extraordinary perfume, and possess a high level of richness. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2040."

1982 Lynch Bages, 750 ML - 279.99

94 points Parker: "This is another Lynch Bages that has never gone through an awkward, disjointed stage where it completely shut down. The color remains a dense ruby with some lightening at the edge. Thick, juicy, succulent notes of creme de cassis intermixed with dried herbs, vanillin, minerals, and anise leap from the glass. Fleshy and full-bodied, with the vintage's voluptuous texture and low acid, fruit/glycerin-dominated flavors well-displayed in its full-bodied personality, this wine tastes young, but isalso ready to drink. Anticipated maturity: now-2015."

2008 Mouton 6 Liter (pre-arrival), 6 L - 1775.00

94-96 points Parker: "Mouton?s vineyard was harvested between October 2-15, and the wine possesses an unexpectedly high pH of 3.85 (high for this vintage, but normal for a riper year). Made from low yields of 34 hectoliters per hectare, it achieved a natural alcohol content of 13.2%, one of the highest ever for this estate. Made from 54% of the production, the 2008 Mouton Rothchild?s final blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Merlot has resulted in an atypically sweeter, more direct and opulent, fleshy Mouton. Keep in mind that this cuvee, because of the high Cabernet Sauvignon content as well as the terroir, is often backward, structured, and nearly foreboding in its youth. However, I do not think the 2008 will behave in that manner. There is plenty of tannin and exceptional density and ripeness, but the tannins are velvety, and I was amazed by how charmingly forward and fleshy this wine already is. A deep purple color, sweet aromas of creme de cassis, smoke, cedar, and an unmistakable floral component (another characteristic of the Cabernet Sauvignon in 2008) are found in this precocious, succulent Mouton that should firm up and put on more weight with aging. My score is somewhat conservative because it is hard to forget their prodigious 2006, but the 2008 will provide far more enjoyment and pleasure over the near-term than the 2006. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035."

2008 Reignac (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 18.99

90-93 points Parker: "A beautifully made, perennial overachiever from proprietor Yves Vatelot, the 2008 Reignac was cropped at 30 hectoliters per hectare, enjoyed malolactic in barrel, and was aged on its lees for four months. The result is a beautiful blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. As good as the outstanding 2005, the 2008 transcends its appellation with its display of power, deep, dark fruits, spice box, and cedar. Pure and dense with ripe tannins as well as the vintage?s remarkable freshness and precision, it should drink well for 6-8 years."

2008 Ducru Magnum (pre-arrival), 1.5 L - 179.99

2008 Montrose (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 68.99

95-97 points Parker: "An undeniably great Montrose, after some time in wood, the 2008 should achieve the heights of the 2003, 1990, and 1989. Stylistically different from those wines, the 2008 harvest took place between September 29 and October 15, and yields were a modest 44 hectoliters per hectare. This superb terroir west of the Gironde River possesses a remarkable amount of gravel in the soil base. Sixty percent of the production made it into the 2008 Montrose, and the person responsible for so many great Haut-Brions, Jean-Bernard Delmas, came out of retirement to take charge over the last several vintages for proprietor Martin Bouygues. An inky/purple color is accompanied by sweet, pure aromas of black fruits and spice. This full-bodied wine exhibits superb concentration, sweet tannin, and a multilayered, textured, full-bodied mouthfeel with no hard edges. The sweetness of the tannin, the extraordinary purity of fruit, and the intense aromatics suggest a year of great ripeness. The difference between the 2008 and the 2003, 1990, or 1989 is the freshness and purity of expression. This should be a long-lived wine (35+ years), yet it will drink surprisingly well at a young age. For some reason, it comes across like an even more pure example of the 1989, even though there is nothing essentially comparable between the two harvests."

2008 Ducru 1/2 (pre-arrival), 375 ml - 45.00

2008 Troplong Mondot (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 79.99

Give it 5-6 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following three decades.

2008 Haut Brion Magnum (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 445.00

2005 l'Evangile (pre-arrival), 750 ml - 309.99

Upgraded to 94-96 points Parker: "Production for this outstanding blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc (made in a new cuverie) is only 40,000 bottles. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2005 l?Evangile boasts a sweet perfume of roasted meats, black raspberries, chocolate, espresso, and notions of truffles and licorice. Full-bodied and opulent, with sweet tannin, and superb purity as well as texture, this stunning Pomerol carries its lofty 13.2% alcohol flawlessly. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025."
